This sunrise was some 40 minutes after the last of the island pictures and in the end the sun never did appear in the sky and was always hidden behind the clouds.
As well as being very pretty this appeared to be visual confirmation of the curvature of the earth. The clouds appeared to similar, and at the same height as far as you could see and the visibility was easily more then 50 miles from the land we could see clearly. The clouds appeared to be clearly curving down in the distance and going over the horizon as the earth curved down away from us. It was really surprisingly clear and only possible at sea and in the clear arctic air.
