Position : 60,48.6N,047,19.7W Sept 27th
At anchor, in a superb, totally protected anchorage, with stern anchor (kedge) in around 19m of water. wind N 5KT,1002 hpa and steady, air temp is 4.1c, water temp is 4.2 c, some growlers, some old rotten icebergs hanging around, slight seas. nil other boat traffic.
After around 24 hours at sea we are settled in our home for the night in a very special anchorage, in total seclusion. The southern lights above us and reflected in the anchorage around us, provide a surreal sight up here at 60 degrees north.
We have had a great day, proceeding steadily south waypoint to waypoint, gently but purposely establishing our routine for sea. I am determined to make sure everyone is comfortable and at ease before we proceed East into the Atlantic. In my experience familiarity with the environment and trust in each other, and acclimatisation with the vessel, supporting each other, in small ways, is fundamental to the practice of good seamanship. We are having fun and achieving our schedule of arrival in JULIANEHAAB/ QAQORTOQ by end of play tomorrow afternoon, and lets face it, if you’re not having fun what’s the point of doing it. We will be ready for the hard work and challenges that lie ahead as we cross to England in the coming days.
All well on NORTHABOUT in IVNARSSUÁNGÛP NUNÀ anchorage.
