At the back of the quay were three sets of reindeer antlers, heads still attached, and on the ground were skins and flesh laid out to dry

Rob Hudson, crew. 4th Leg: Atlantic crossing 26 Sept

We arrived at Fiskanaesset/ Qeqertarsuatsiaat last night as it went dark, anchored, and after supper three of the crew went ashore to recce. The other three washed up, had a whisky and went to sleep.

This morning five paddled the rubber dinghy up to the pontoon in the little harbour, passing two dead baby seals floating in the water. At the back of the quay were three sets of reindeer antlers, heads still attached, and on the ground were skins and flesh laid out to dry. We circled the village and found a simple church, which was beautiful inside, white painted and serene, with a model of a schooner hanging from the ceiling over the aisle.

We upped anchor, and are now cruising in the sun under a cloudless blue sky passed icefields, islands and mountains. This will be a 30 hour stretch, so we are getting into the routine of watches, rotas for cooking and cleaning, and grabbing time for rest and sleep. Good preparation for the crossing ahead.
