As a requirement for the insurance for the high latitude element of the expedition we needed to have an insurance survey carried out on ‘Northabout’. We arranged for this to go ahead and the report back highlighted some works that the insurance company would need us to carry out in order to be able to insure us in the high latitudes. Some of these jobs were big jobs such as the replacement of the standing rigging, and for the running rigging to be looked and to follow any advice on works that would need doing. Other elements of the insurance survey highlighted were maintenance and preparation tasks for a sailing trip such we that which we had planned for ‘Northabout’.
