From all those knock backs, one after another we now had two quotes to look at and compare. We had to pinch ourselves to check that we weren’t dreaming and this was real. Of the two quotes, one seemed to meet our requirements from what we could see. We wanted to do some further checking to ensure that it would meet all the requirements of the Russian Authorities and would hopefully make for a smoother process of checking all the necessary documents when the expedition arrives in Murmansk.
We checked with a contact that we have in St. Petersburg who is helping us with the permit application, we also ran the details past a Russian Skipper with experience of sailing in the North East Passage and also the insurance company were working on our behalf with a contact in the British Embassy in Moscow to ensure that the insurance would cover all that we needed. This all seemed to be ok from our checks and so we went ahead with the insurance. One step closer to sailing in the Arctic Ocean.
