Rob Hudson 2 October Labrador Sea, Greenland
If you find yourself sailing down the southwest of Greenland on a yacht with a 14 year old adventurer, do NOT let him teach you to play Irish snap. At least, if you do, make sure there is someone else being introduced to the game who knows the rules even worse than you do.
The night before last Benji taught David and I, and laughed gleefully as he thrashed us. A salutary experience, but by the end of the game, maybe there was a glimmer of understanding entering our subconsciousness.
So last night, Benji, David and I introduced Skipper Mike to the game. Suddenly the game became great fun, as Mike was slaughtered. David and I had just enough knowledge of the rudiments of the game to smash our hands down in time to leave Mike holding the ragged remnants of the pack and muttering miserably about never ever playing cards with any of us again.
Tonight we need to teach Andrew. Hopefully he hasn’t played the game before! Mike will enjoy it then.
