Same time, same place, a day later. 1st August.
Actually a long day of cleaning, washing and relaxing yesterday. Its surprising how tired you get relaxing !
Had a great meal of Pizza, with every topping under the Sun, Vodka flowed for Navy day, and wine flowed for British day. Music played in the background for the first time from our iPods and everyone very chilled.
So the Anchor watch started at Midnight and I was first up until 1.30 am. I thought this would be brilliant, as normally my Comrades are up with me at this time. However, everyone went to bed at 10pm and I was totally by myself. So I was actually on watch from 10 to 1.30 .
Whilst it was no hardship, as you sit in the saloon nice and warm at about 18 degrees, with the outside temp at 2 degrees. Reading and listening to music.
We are in a stunning cove, flat calm water and really sheltered. Low undulating hills protecting us. Green /Brown covering, we could be in the North of Scotland. It actually reminds me of the Shetlands. Amazingly, you could sit in the cockpit and drink tea in 10 degrees. The sun when not in the cloud has some real strength and warmth.
We are trying our hand at fishing, but whilst we have seen the odd seal, I don’t think we will have fresh Sushi tonight.
So today was maintenance, checking engine, Chart plotter, Generator and Oven. Even though we have not moved, Nikolai still has to give daily position reports to seemingly every Russian department in the federation. Its not such a bad thing, at least if we need to call in the Cavalry, they know where we are.
Its getting to that Vodka hour. I might treat the boys to a slurp and sausage.
Tomorrow is a big day for us, new Ice Charts. Hooooola Shakeerrrrr SKRESTIM PAL’CY (Which I have been told is touch wood in Russian)
David
