Ben Edwards, Crew all 4 legs. Regular crew blogger !
Hello again. we’re still in Lerwick and we won’t leave until tomorrow, if we’re lucky. I got up at about nine, Big Nose and I were going to have breakfast in a nearby cafe when on the way out of the boat we were ambushed by a reporter from the Shetland News. We had a bit of a talk with him, it wasn’t very long because he was pressed for time, and then went to the cafe.
Daniel, the man from the engineering company, was in early and had already torn up the floorboards and was rooting around in the engine. Upon my arrival back at the boat I spent some time helping Dad crimp a few wires together to attach the new bilge pumps. So we have new bilge pumps, yay. John, Hazel, Annie and I went to the Tesco that’s in Lerwick to get provisions for the next leg. Nicolai spent the entire day doing the Russian paperwork to get us into Murmansk. It’s a pain there because it is the Russians only northern navel port so the security is ludicrous. You have to report you position 120 hours before you get there, 96 hours, 60 hours, 48 hours, 24 hours, 12 hours and 6 hours!. Why does this have to happen?!
Anyway, when we got back from shopping it was announced to me that Zoe, David and Big Nose had been in touch with ITN and that I would be visiting a local school tomorrow with one of their cameraman. They’ve taken a special interest in us which is great, the more publicity we get, the more coverage Wicked Weather Watch and ACT get, Whoo! I’m going to writing the occasional blog directly to them so I’m afraid if you want to read it you’ll have to go onto the ITN website.
The oven still needs to be fixed, it still goes out a lot so you can’t cook anything in it. The plan for tomorrow, other than the school trip, is to get Nicolai a birthday present. It’s the ninth of August but We don’t want to forget. And to fix whatever remains broken on the boat. I need a shower and to shave so I plan to do that in a moment, in the meantime, goodbye!
