So Murmansk is an important port for Russia. Coal comes here from Siberia and is then loaded on to huge freighters for transport around the World. Including Britain. 24 hours a day these cranes work in a ballerina style. All dancing and working to a rhythm until the ship is loaded and it quietly leaves to be replaced by another.
I am sure in the UK or the USA the port would fail the H & S and risk police, these crane drivers climb an outside ladder and work in a little cab in all weathers. These guys are hard. Very hard.
I came back to the port late one night and saw the cranes still working. They looked like an image from the War of the Worlds, like they were coming to get me.

You are right!
I am from Murmansk and i’ve been in some ports of UK. I remember the port of Immingham. Every day, after discharging coal from our ship the special water truck flush all coal dropped onto wharf.
Here in Murmansk we have a big problem with cleanliness of the city centre due to coal dust coming from the port. Few years ago port had to install special water jets at the coal berths in order to fight with tis coal dust. But it is not working))
