2-4 September: Our wonderful stay in Tuktoyaktuk, Canada

Arriving and refuelling our emergency fuel stock. Rick the truck driver kindly stayed after work especially because we arrived after hours (and on a holiday weekend!). Doug Saunders kindly let us stay moored at the pontoon at E. Grubens transport depot.

Doug gave us use of an empty house to have our first showers in weeks!

We bought ribs from the excellent supermarket, made some new friends on the way, and had a rib dinner on the boat.

Willard Craig from Tuktoyaktuk gave up part of his holiday weekend to help us make a part to fix the autohelm. Steve and Ben fitted it. In the picture of 3 parts, the left is the old broken one (notice the stress failed metal facing the camera), the centre is the new part and the right is an emergency spare Willard made from welding two bolts together.

Nikolai our Russian captain was particularly interested in the many, small Tuk churchs. He took these.

The wooden house was built as part of the celebrations for the Queen when she visited in 1967.  It was a traditional house and covered in turf and the second house is a more recent replica to show how the first house looked when the Queen was shown round it.
