No Longer In The Land Of The Midnight Sun

We’ve crossed the Arctic Circle!  For the first time in months I am no longer in the land of the midnight sun.  Naturally though we still have Northern Lights.  Over the past two nights the aurora have been really spectacular.  The night before last we had a circle of them directly above the boat and last night there was a green line in the sky almost exactly above where the circle is.  The scenery during the day has been amazing too.  I really don’t see why The Lord Of The Rings was filmed in New Zealand and not here.  Watching the mountains on the coast you could have put Moria anywhere around here.  The sailing itself has been disappointingly boring.  No wind, so we’ve had to motor and a current against us so we’re only doing about five knots. We should however reach Nuuk early tomorrow morning.

Something rather funny is that at night we’ve been able to see lights on the coast.  Which is of course, something that hasn’t been common for me at least for a very long time.  Since before Tromsø in fact.

When The Mother arrived in Upernavik with a set of books for me to read I was very pleased to find two Sherlock Holmes stories.  About a year ago I started A Study In Scarlet but never finished it.  I am therefore relishing the chance to complete the book.

I’m afraid I’m going to have to cut this blog short so I can get some sleep.  Though I am quite used to it by now twenty four hour sailing is still tiring and you have to sleep in both downtime periods.  See you in Nuuk.

Bye.
